One of the stops looked like New York City.
Shops lined both sides of the streets where you could find very fancy-pants stores to nab the perfect purse, the most stylin' 6 inch heels and the newest perfume. We knew I was pregnant before we left on our trip and were thrilled to be able to seek out some souvenirs for this world traveler's first adventure.
We came across the perfect store in the shopping district of London ...."Mamas and Papas". We didn't know what we were looking for, but we were both so excited to find the perfect thing for this upcoming arrival.
I knew it the minute I saw it.
It was perfect.
I knew we'd bring her home in it.
I knew these were some of the first words I wanted to share with her the day she was born.
Welcome to the World.
This crazy, fun, sometimes-challenging, beautiful, confusing, amazing world.
Well....we didn't take her home in it.
We didn't know.
We didn't know that the 18-plus buttons might be kind-of challenging to figure out.
We didn't know that she might not be patient enough for us to push her arms through the big and furry arm holes.
We didn't know that buying something that says, "0-3 months" didn't exactly mean she would fit into it the day she turned "0".
We've had some good laughs on this "perfect" little take-home outfit that would welcome her into the world!
After getting our fill of the London air, we moved on to the city of love....the Eiffel Tower, the quaint little cafes, the pastries, the museums, the wine, the pain-au-chocolates, the cute little boutiques with unique hair clips and coin purses, the bridges....the romantic feel in the air.
We entered a baby boutique with bright colors, fun designs and adorable little outfits.
We didn't know whether Maya would be a girl or boy, but I had a hunch.
A real strong intuition.
They affectionately call it a "mothers intuition".
I knew we should buy a blue outfit.
Clearly, I have some work to do.
Dan's beautifully-painted stripe of baby blue was quickly painted over by my Dad the day after Maya was born with a real nice "Bubble Gum Pink" from the local Home Depot.
We bought a little outfit in that cute little Paris boutique....a "sleeper", as we've learned to call them.
We thought it would be perfect.
It hung in the closet, waiting for her to grow.
Today was the day.
Oh, this Parisian looked cute.
We tried to ask the little woman in the boutique what the writing on the sleeper meant. After four attempts and four responses of, "Huh?", we kindly smiled, thanked her and paid for the cute elephant ensemble.
When we returned from our trip, we used the online translator.
"Begin an Adventurous Journey"
Beautiful.
We didn't know....but, we loved it.
We didn't know that "easy snap sleepers" were important.
Paris babies must be more patient than American babies.
They must be willing to be buried face down on their changing tables for extended periods of time, while their mama snaps them up......each and every time they change their diaper.
Begin an Adventurous Journey.
Perfectly said.
We have learned so much in just 10 weeks. About snaps, buttons and sleepers, about what "Desitin" is, about how to wake up at 3am, that vacuum cleaners and hair dryers are loud to keep babies quiet and how to love coffee. We've learned how to love more, share more and give more....of ourselves....from our hearts. We've learned that something so small can rock your world and make the world a better place.
We didn't know a lot, but we're on this adventurous journey together...all 3 of us.
We learn a little more each day, from each other, from friends, from family, from the random stranger in Target and from our intuition that continues to evolve and develop.
This is the best Adventurous Journey yet.
Love this post! Great job!
